Mine
Leviticus 25:23-24
23 “‘The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers. 24 Throughout the land that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land.

Mark 7:31-8:10 31
Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man
31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis.[b]32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.
33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the...

Love and Respect
Ephesians 5: 22-28
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for...

If the prayer of a righteous man is "powerful and...
James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Alright, not sure, but this may get depressing/uncomfortable quick. If you’re not on board with that, you might should stop reading now.
Okay James. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective, huh? Well, thanks...

Why do what God says?
We don’t serve God because He needs us to serve Him. We serve him because we need to serve Him.
We don’t tithe because God needs our money. We tithe because we need to give Him our money.
We don’t love God because He needs out love. We love God because we need to love Him.
There is nothing, not one thing, that God needs from us. There is not a single command that He gives us...
I'm terrified at what the cost may be, but even...
When God wants to drill a man,
And thrill a man,
And skill a man
When God wants to mold a man
To play the noblest part;
When He yearns with all His heart
To create so great and bold a man
That all the world shall be amazed,
Watch His methods, watch His ways!
How He ruthlessly perfects
Whom He royally elects!
How He hammers him and hurts him,
And with mighty blows converts him
Into trial shapes...

A Quick Reversal.
Matthew 23: 1-12
1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger...

Love the Lord
Matthew 22: 34-40
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a]38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the...

In the House of the Lord
Psalm 27: 1-6
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me to devour[a] me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.

The quote is from the book Good Omens by Terry...
“God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of the players, (ie everybody), to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won’t tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.”
I feel this...

Spiritual Leadership
“Spiritual leadership is not license to do what you want to do. It is empowerment to do what you ought to do.”
I don’t know if he was the first one to say this, but J.D. Greear has a new subscriber to his sermons.
Also (this one apparently comes from Tony Evans): “Spiritual leadership is God telling the woman to duck so He can punch the guy.” In regards to bad...

Ever since Joss Whedon’s space western was canceled back in 2003, its fans — at first, a relatively small contingent, but as time and DVD sales grew, so did the ranks swell — have wondered what could possibly rescue it from the tightly clenched jaws of death. And until now, nothing could….

Humility
I don’t know about you, but I like it a lot better when He uses the carrot than I do when He uses the stick. Still, sometimes a good solid whack on the head is the only way to get a mopey, whiny boy moving.

Genesis 39
Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife
1 Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.
2 The LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave...

A Passage in Matthew Explained Using Rage Comics....
1 Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. 2 Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your...

The Cost of Following Jesus
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
21 Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let...

Genesis 26:7-9

Friend:
I hear you on the grumpy thing.
But hey, that’s why the cat is making you cookies.
Me:
Exactly.
I’m probably grumpy cause I just spent a few hours hanging out with some friends, including a couple of very attractive girls who are not and are not going to be interested in me. But that’s such a lame excuse to be in a bad mood.
Friend:

Genesis 20: 1-7
1 Now Abraham moved on from there into the region of the Negev and lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar, 2 and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.” Then Abimelek king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.
3 But God came to Abimelek in a dream one night and said to him, “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken;...

The First of the Old and the First of the New
Mathew 4:1-11
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[c] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[d]”

Midnight thoughts
I wonder if the sudden and painful feeling of the absence of God when we are made violently aware of our sin is not from Him leaving us in that moment, but rather, that we are suddenly no longer numb to the fact that we have been pushing him away.

Always.
No verse tonight.
Mainly because I could barely read my scheduled bible verse. What do you do when it hurts and as far as you know, it isn’t your fault? When it isn’t anybodies fault? What do you do when there is no one to blame except the God who lead you into this place? I believe He’s real. I believe He is good.
I believe He’s hurt me and I can’t really understand why.
What do you...

Wrestling with God
Genesis 32: 22-26 22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that...

The Ark and the Grave
Genesis 6:14-16 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.

The Knowledge of Good and Evil
Genesis 3: 1-6 1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not...

Where is Jesus?
John 20:13-14 13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”
“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

John 19:12-16 12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar.”
